By Anthony KelleyMore than likely most of us at one time or another have suffered from some form of back pain, but with enough rest and time the pain gradually diminished. Though while in our agony we almost certainly felt that it probably never would end. Because of this we can certainly sympathize with those who are not as fortunate as us to have gotten rid of the pain and live with this constant affliction.
So whether you are affected by chronic back pain presently or you know someone that is, the information in this article can be invaluable for those who are plagued with this at times debilitating condition on a daily basis .
There are many reasons for back pain such as arthritis, stenosis, spondylosis, herniated discs, injury, both physical and mental stress, obesity, and so on. Half of the battle to finding relief from the pain is having the problem correctly diagnosed. It is this, in conjunction with the appropriate treatment that will lead you to the road to recovery.
Unfortunately there are times despite the best efforts of modern medical science, barrage of tests, alternative and traditional therapies, drugs, and even sometimes surgery. The cause of pain defies a reasonable and rational explanation and therefore the remedy remains ever so elusive.
Conventional wisdom tells us that logically if the pain is in the back, therein lies the problem. This is not always the case. We are usually so singularly focused on the back instead of treating the body as a whole. That what we fail to observe is that there may be various other factors which can be affecting it. Although the pain is emanating from a specific area, it is entirely possible that it can be referring from somewhere else.
Practitioners who incorporate a postural analysis exam as part of their evaluation and assessment protocol, tend to understand that a body that is misaligned can cause significant problems. For example a seemingly minor and unrelated thing such as an injured big toe, which is needed for balance, can change a persons gate which can affect their ankles and knees, which affects their hips, which in turn can ultimately affect the back, this is commonly referred to as the kinetic chain.

Another instance of the kinetic chain is tight muscles. For example a tight calf muscle or gastrocnemius soleus, will create tension in the hamstrings, which pulls on the gluteal muscles, which then affects the back. These same muscles the gastrocnemius soleus, the hamstring and gluteal group are all postural muscles which play an very important role in keeping the body upright, so if they are weak it creates an extra workload for the spinal erector muscles, which main function is to keep the upper torso erect.
Other muscles that are sometimes overlooked concerning the back are the psoas muscles also known as the hip flexors. The psoas attaches from the L 1 through the L 5 anterior portion or front of the spine in the lumbar region. Tension in this area can cause pain in the lower back, a lot of tension can cause a condition known as lordosis, an abnormal inward curve of the lumbar spine.
The Quadratus Lumborum muscle one of the muscles responsible for bending of the trunk sideways and back extension also can also play a role in back pain if it is tight. Weak undeveloped or tight overly developed abdominal muscles which acts as a core stabilizer, can also cause back problems.

Proper stretching and strengthening exercises on a regular consistent basis could greatly relieve these conditions, as well as appropriate Therapeutic Massage techniques.
Nutritional deficiencies are unfortunately often not considered in assessing reasons for back pain, but this seemingly inconsequential factor can have a tremendous impact on the health of your back.

Take for instance, since water is crucial in the elimination process. If you are dehydrated your system can not effectively get rid of waste products and toxins, there are a number of notable things that can happen causing pain when this occurs. One of them is that internal pressure can build up in your intestines from the body’s inability to discard of the waste. Another is, as toxins accumulate in the muscles and lymph they produce inflammation, tenderness and pain.
Also dehydration can cause a loss of volume in the intervertebral discs, being that this spongy substance is made up of mostly water, and as a result there is less space between the vertebrae creating compression on the nerves.
A lack of calcium, equally important for men as it is for women can cause loss of bone mass. It as well as other minerals such as potassium and magnesium can cause muscle spasms and cramps. A deficiency in vitamin D3 can also contribute to muscle pain. Highly acidic foods and drinks such as colas are known to leech the calcium out of the body and can produce serious complications over time. Vitamin B complex supplementation is important in protecting from, as well as repairing nerve damage. It may be a note worthy consideration especially if you suffer from sciatic pain.
In all, in consideration of everything mentioned it is very important to bear in mind, in seeking a cure for your aching back that there are other possibilities and options to explore, beyond the traditional and mainstream approaches when no hope seems apparent. The alternatives are indeed available despite what you are ultimately led to believe or been told. Through time, patience and persistance you may very discover that you do not have to live with or endure a lifetime of pain.
